3-7 hours / week 4-6 hours per week which can be done remotely, days and hours to suit, plus 3 hours per month on site to attend the Board meeting.

Our charity can be summed up in 4 words: People, Horses, Development, Enrichment. Horses are amazing animals and through them we have the opportunity to make real and lasting differences to the lives of local disabled adults and children.

What will you be doing?

Role Purpose

Work with fellow Directors to shape, drive and monitor the charity strategy
Prepare for and participate fully in board meetings
Promote the work of the charity externally
Act reasonably in decision-making and leadership of the organisation
Ensure the proper management and administration of the charity
Participate in sub-committees
Select, manage and support the Senior Management
Manage risks with a considered, proportionate and balanced approach
Ensure that the charity’s values and the principles of RDA are upheld in the delivery of its objectives

Specific to the Treasurer role

Prepare and present monthly accounts
Prepare a summary and report for the Board
Prepare a quarterly report for the Members of the Centre
Prepare and submit annual statutory accounts, tax computations and Charity Commission returns
Present the financial statements to the Board and Members at the AGM
Working with the Charity Manager, prepare and present an annual budget to the Board

Full training and support is available for the duties mentioned above.

Time commitment

Board meetings are usually held monthly, out of normal working hours. In addition, there may be sub-committees to attend where appropriate. Papers for meetings are circulated five working days in advance.

Outside of board and committee meetings, Directors are asked to represent the Centre at events and champion the work of the Centre and RDA to their contacts and networks. In addition, staff sometimes consult with Directors on particular subjects and there are opportunities for Directors to attend project meetings and events.

The Treasurer role has additional duties and will on average require 4-6 hours per week to complete these duties.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

We are seeking a Treasurer who:

Is committed to the organisation and has sufficient time and willingness to contribute effectively to board proceedings as well as the Treasurer's duties
Has an understanding of strategy development
Is able to work effectively as a member of a team
Is willing to speak up and can remain independent of any influence from another organisation or individual
Is able to make quick and sound decisions based on an analysis of information presented to them
Has a passion for the charitable sector and social change, and an understanding of theory of change
Can manage risks with a balanced and informed approach
Is committed to the principles of RDA

Desirable

We are seeking a Director who:

Has an interest in or experience of activities covered by RDA
Has a reasonable level of understanding about the legal, financial, audit and regulatory requirements of a charity
Managing relationships between charitable and non-charitable organisations
Lives or works within the Centre’s catchment area
Has an understanding of disability related issues

Specific skills, experience or knowledge

The Treasurer needs to be a qualified accountant that has experience in a senior or managerial role within a small to medium sized company. Good overall business knowledge will also be beneficial.

What difference will you make?

The Board of Directors play a vital role as custodians of the charity, each member of the Board must have a unique skill set that collectively can offer the Centre it's best possible chance of not only long term survival but to think big and help the Centre achieve it's vision to be a progressive community based around horses, providing life enhancing opportunities to people with additional needs.

The Treasurer has a very specific and important role within the Board. It is an all encompassing and influential role and is essential to ensure that effective financial systems and procedures have been established, are being consistently followed and are in line with best practice and legal requirements.
