We estimate the role will require around 6 hours per month on average for meeting preparation and attendance, and ad hoc work with staff.

We are looking for a strategically minded person with significant knowledge and experience of Finance and Auditing as well as an interest in, and commitment to, the work the BAMT does.

What will you be doing?

Responsibilities of the treasurer are:

  1. Overseeing, approving and presenting draft budgets and management accounts to the Board.
  2. Chairing the Finance Committee in line with its Terms of Reference and reporting back to the Board of Trustees.
  3. Overseeing the financial health of BAMT to ensure its resources remain adequate for its current and future financial needs.
  4. Advising the Board on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans.
  5. Ensuring that the charity has appropriate reserves and investment policies.
  6. Liaising with and advising staff about financial matters.
  7. Approving trustee and chief executive expenses in the absence of the Chair.
  8. Approving expenditure in accordance with bank and investment mandates and the organisation’s financial procedures.
  9. Ensuring the accounts are prepared and examined in accordance with the Charities SORP, liaising with the independent examiner where required.
  10. Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the Annual General Meeting, illustrating the important points in an understandable way.

What are we looking for?

The candidate must have:

  • Significant experience and expertise in Financial Management.
  • Strategic thinking in a non-operational capacity
  • Commitment to the Vision, Mission and Values of BAMT.
  • The knowledge, experience and confidence to Chair the board’s Finance Committee
  • Willingness to meet the minimum time requirement to carry out the role described, estimated to be around 6 hours per month on average.
  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a diverse team.
  • Good, independent judgement.
  • Integrity.


It is desirable for the applicant to have:

  • Experience of working within a charity or corporate board
  • High level of commercial awareness.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills.
