Join L’Arche Liverpool as a Training Volunteer and help develop our learning programmes for core members, volunteers, and staff. Be part of a community where people with and without learning disabilities share life, and support one another.

What will you be doing?

Join L’Arche Liverpool as a Training Volunteer and help shape a more inclusive and supportive community.

L’Arche Liverpool is part of a global movement where people with and without learning disabilities live, work, and celebrate life together. We are currently seeking committed volunteers to support the development and delivery of training programmes for our core members (people with learning disabilities), volunteers, support workers, and staff.

As a Training Volunteer, you’ll join a warm, welcoming team and have the opportunity to build genuine relationships while contributing to community life. Your role may include:

  • Assisting in the design and facilitation of internal training
  • Supporting learning sessions for core members
  • Helping ensure all community members access inclusive and empowering development opportunities

What we offer:

  • Accredited Makaton training
  • Oliver McGowan mandatory training on learning disability and autism
  • Safeguarding and first aid training
  • Ongoing support, reflection sessions, and a truly supportive environment

Time commitment is flexible:

  • 2 to 6 hours per day
  • Once a week, twice a week, or every other week

This opportunity is perfect for those looking to make a difference, gain hands-on experience in social care, education, or community work—or simply be part of something meaningful.

What are we looking for?

Experienced Training Volunteer Role at L’Arche Liverpool

Are you an experienced volunteer looking to deepen your impact in a values-driven community?

We’re looking for a passionate Training Volunteer with at least three years of experience in developing or delivering training and learning programmes within social care or related sectors, who is ready to take their contribution to the next level.

As a Training Volunteer, you will help shape, deliver, and evaluate our learning and development programmes for:

  • Core members (adults with learning disabilities)
  • New and existing volunteers
  • Support workers and assistants
  • Staff across the community

You will play a key role in:

  • Co-designing inclusive and engaging training content
  • Facilitating or co-facilitating training sessions and workshops
  • Supporting participants with different learning styles and abilities
  • Evaluating training impact and making improvements
  • Helping embed L’Arche’s ethos and values into every learning experience

This role allows you to grow as a leader while continuing to contribute in a flexible, relational, and supportive environment.

What you’ll gain:

  • Leadership experience in volunteer and community development
  • Opportunities to shape organisational training strategy
  • Ongoing support, peer reflection, and further skills development
  • Strong, mutual relationships that extend beyond training sessions

Ideal qualities include:

  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Creativity and flexibility in designing inclusive content
  • Commitment to accessibility, safeguarding, and lifelong learning
  • A collaborative spirit and a heart for community

You’ll have access to continued training, including:

  • Advanced Makaton or refresher courses
  • Annual Oliver McGowan updates
  • Co-production workshops and reflective practice sessions

What difference will you make?

Make a meaningful impact through relational volunteering at L’Arche Liverpool.

As a volunteer, you will be part of a deeply relational model of care and inclusion—where your presence, not just your tasks, makes a difference. Your support will help create a sense of belonging and purpose for our core members (adults with learning disabilities), while strengthening a community built on trust, mutual respect, and shared joy.

By volunteering, you’ll directly contribute to enhancing the quality of life of our core members through:

  • Promoting independence, dignity, and self-worth
  • Encouraging creativity and self-expression
  • Offering companionship and reducing feelings of isolation
  • Supporting the smooth running of group sessions, workshops, and daily activities

In return, you’ll gain far more than just experience. Volunteers at L’Arche Liverpool benefit from genuine community, opportunities for personal growth, and relationships that often extend well beyond their time with us.
