Our Board of Trustees is looking for three new members to help ensure the effective running of our fantastic local charity and the delivery of our purpose and objectives.

What will you be doing?

What will be your responsibilities? 

Working with your co-trustees, you will: 

  • Make sure Citizens Advice North Herts (CANH) complies with its governing documents and the law 
  • Manage CANH’s resources responsibly, including: 
  • monitoring the financial position of CANH and ensure that it operates within its means and objects, and that there are clear lines of accountability for day-to-day financial management 
  • avoid exposing the charity’s assets, beneficiaries or reputation to undue risk 
  • Act with reasonable skill and care, making use of your skills and experience, whilst actively contributing to setting policy and strategic direction and supporting the development of CANH through participation in committees and agreed projects. 

 

 Personal skills, experience, and qualities a trustee must have: 

  • have experience of acting as a leader 
  • understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities as a trustee 
  • be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own 
  • have good numeracy and analytical skills to understand various financial and statistical data reports 
  • be committed to full participation in the various governance committees, Trustee Board meetings and AGM
  • be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies
  • be willing to undertake training in your role

 

  We are particularly interested in people with the following skillsets: 

  • HR management
  • fundraising/commercial
  • legal and compliance

 

Time commitment

As a minimum, trustees would be expected to commit to full participation (including preparatory work) for the quarterly board meeting and sub-committees, equating to about 10 to 12 hours per quarter. Additionally, there may also be other project specific meetings, staff/volunteer meetings and strategy/planning sessions where your support and participation will be needed.
