The XRUK Arrestee & Legal Support team provide legal guidance to XRUK to support and guide volunteers.You need professional experience in project management, team leadership or team management. Legal experience is desirable.

What will you be doing?

Are you super organised with good people skills who would like to make a difference in XR from home? If so, XRUK Arrestee & Legal Support [A&LS] needs you!

Arrestee and Legal Support is a large team with multiple sub-groups. We support volunteers through the arrest, charge and trial process. We also provide pre-arrest support including legal briefings for action planners and Know Your Rights training for volunteers.

This role requires experience in managing a team however it does not require any legal knowledge or training although this would be useful. Familiarity with XR structure and processes is helpful. Training and support are available.

The core duties of the Team Guide [Internal Coordinator] for A&LS include:

  • Planning the agenda by Tuesday for the weekly A&LS Zoom meeting on Wednesday evening 18:30-20:00
  • Helping to facilitate the meeting as needed
  • Coordinating with the various A&LS sub-groups
  • Managing overall information flow within A&LS as needed
  • Helping to maintain an effective and healthy team
  • Keeping data about the group up to date, including appointments to roles in A&LS and its sub-groups

The XRUK A&LS team cover a wide variety of needs for XRUK. These include:

  • Developing strategies and action designs.
  • Supporting volunteers in making informed decisions before, during and after arrest.
  • GDPR compliance.
  • Developing and delivering training and resources.
  • Coordinating support for arrestees throughout the life-cycle of the arrest process.
  • Taking on complex legal challenges that benefit XR defendants and the movement.
  • Providing legal briefings and guidance to XR across England and Wales.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in managing teams. We can mentor and train you as you learn about XRUK's projects, systems and teams.
  • Well-organized, efficient, reliable, and willing to take initiative
  • Good people skills
  • Basic IT skills.
