Minimum working 1.5 hours per week. It will mostly be on the weekends and some weekday afternoon/evenings. This role is for a minimum of 3 months.

Socialising Angels CIC is a new company which provides valuable socialising opportunities for young adults aged 18 to 25 years old with learning disabilities. We are looking for support mentors to assist them to navigate these opportunities.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you will:

  1. Shadow Support Staff:

    • Work closely with our experienced support staff to gain insights into the day-to-day responsibilities and challenges they encounter.
  2. Support Young Adults (YA):

    • Collaborate with the team to understand the diverse needs of young adults, ensuring they receive appropriate safeguarding and support during trips and sessions.
  3. Safeguarding Responsibilities:

    • Play a crucial role in implementing safeguarding measures to ensure the safety and well-being of young adults under our care.at all times
  4. Maintain Confidentiality and Professionalism:

    • Uphold high standards of professionalism and confidentiality, especially when dealing with sensitive information and situations.
  5. Flexibility and Adaptability:

    • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to work effectively with a diverse group of service users, adjusting to changing situations as needed.
  6. Effective Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

    • Utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills, both on the telephone and electronically, to foster positive relationships within the team and with service users.
  7. Technology Proficiency:

    • Possess proficiency in using smartphones and tablets, as the role may involve the use of technology for communication and documentation purposes.
  8. Disability Awareness:

    • While formal training is not required, an understanding or awareness of disabilities and a willingness to learn and adapt to the diverse needs of our service users is highly valued.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate for this role should possess knowledge and awareness of learning disabilities and safeguarding vulnerable adults.

Hands-on experience working with vulnerable adults or those with learning disabilities, coupled with a genuine passion for providing support.

A calm, patient, and caring personality is crucial, as well as effective communication skills, including experience with methods like Makaton and picture symbols.

The candidate should be open to ongoing training, particularly in safeguarding and disability awareness, and showcase adaptability, empathy, and collaborative teamwork.

Problem-solving skills and cultural competence are also key attributes for success in this role.
