Over The Rainbow Café is York's LGBTQ+ community café and sober space, offering a neurodivergent friendly queer space, and we need a skilled and knowledgeable social media manager.

What will you be doing?

What we need is someone who can run our Instagram (and possibly TikTok and our website if able) with professional skill and acumen, that can get the message out effectively about who we are, and what we can provide as a local non-profit. Furthermore, an understanding of virtual fundraising, coming up with ideas for exposure and marketing of our non-profit would be an excellent bonus. The aim is to make sure the whole of LGBTQ+ York knows we exist, so we can help those in need- who may not know we do yet, as well as providing a place where people can donate to this cause. This would be very important outreach, and a deep understanding of the LGBTQ+ community and what their needs are would be paramount- therefore we need someone skilled in this particular area.

About us;

We provide bring and swap clothes rail for gender affirmation, binder donation scheme, Pay-It-Forward system for food and drinks (Vegan and GF options available too) , and a space for the community to get together and support each other. We try to have as many events on as possible that are free or at low cost every day, or in the evening- such as 'Make It Mondays' where we supply crafting or painting items, or Board Games on Sundays, as well as many other events. Although small, we try to do as much as we can for the community, combat isolation and provide important signposting to anyone who needs support. We need someone to advertise all these events and market our non-profit to the general public and funders.

What are we looking for?

The skills that would be required would be;

1. Social media management / skilled on Instagram and marketing

2. Basic graphic design skills using Canva or better

3. A strong knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues and what people face

The experience that would be required would be;

1. 3+ years of social media management

2. Worked with LGBTQ+ individuals and understand current issues.

Qualities needed;

1. Organised and professional.

2. Empathetic and knowledgeable.

3. Upbeat and passionate.

What difference will you make?

Our mission is to help and signpost to as many struggling LGBTQ+ people in York as possible. As we are the only sober LGBTQ+ space in York, this is an opportunity to build this platform to the general public, but also be the first point of call via socials and the first impression for funders who may be looking to invest in this community. Your impact could be fundamentally huge and could make a real difference in helping isolated LGBTQ+ individuals find us and be helped. Furthermore, successfully showing funders what we provide and how we have helped directly, will help fund future projects.
