Help to engage our audiences with our transformative literacy work in Malawi! This role would suit a digital native comfortable with Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram marketing who can create a compelling social media strategy.

What will you be doing?

You will run our day-to-day social media channels, posting regular updates from our work in Malawi to inform supporters and assist fundraising campaigns. You'll lead the development of our social channels while working closely with the Director of Digital Strategy and our international team of volunteers, as well as our team implementing our projects in Malawi.

We have a fantastic library of existing content including written stories, high-quality images, and impactful short videos and need someone to utilise these assets effectively through social media to promote our work.

Responsibilities

Most of your responsibilities will be around the following:

  • Post regular updates to our social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn).
  • Create engaging visual and written content using tools such as Canva.
  • Develop, launch and manage new campaigns that promote CharChar's work and fundraising.
  • Manage and facilitate social media communities by responding to social media posts and developing discussion.

Skills

We don't expect you to have everything! But you may have gained some of these skills through your work or other volunteering.

  • Proficiency in many social media platforms and using scheduling tools.
  • Proficiency with graphic design tools such as Canva.
  • Knowledge of social media strategy, planning, implementation and marketing for multiple purposes.
  • Skill in presenting data as infographics; combining graphic design and data analytics.
  • Experience with content management.
  • Skill in creating short videos appropriate for routine social media posting and for short- and long-term campaigns.
  • Ability to work with a highly invested team, sometimes with a great deal of collaborative and iterative input, to ultimately achieve accurate and professional designs.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate is a prolific self-starter who loves creating social media content, and can help our team turn brainstorms into well-planned campaigns with beautiful content. You thrive in a tight knit, fast-paced, high functioning virtual team and are comfortable using online tools for communication and work organization, asynchronously, as our team is geographically dispersed. You feel that improving children's literacy and numeracy outcomes in Malawi's Primary Schools is of the utmost importance, and thus are compelled to make our social media output the best it can possibly be. You love creating templates, strategies and frameworks and teaching other enthusiastic and highly skilled volunteers to use them.

What difference will you make?

  • You will help raise awareness about the challenges in primary school literacy exist and the low cost solutions the CharChar Trust supports and delivers in partnership with the Government of Malawi.
  • Your work will support our fundraising successes and strengthen CharChar's ability to help children become literate, providing them a chance to succeed with their education.
  • Your social media campaigns have the potential to influence the number of girls who stay in school and receive a full education.
