We're a small charity with big ambitions seeking a Finance Director or Trustee.  In this rewarding role you'll have an opportunity to contribute to an innovative charity which is making a real difference to children's futures.

What will you be doing?

Our current long-term Finance Trustee is stepping down in March 2025 and we are looking for someone to learn the role from her.  As we embark on our strategic growth plan, complemented with a fundraising strategy, this is a great time to join our team!  

The main responsibilities and duties of this role include:

  • Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan
  • Advising on the financial viability of the charity
  • Overseeing and presenting budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the board of trustees
  • Supporting on submitting Financial accounts to the Charities Commission 
  • Leading in the board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Support on ensuring restricted funds are kept separate and accounted for separately
  • Liaising, where applicable, with the our Kenyan Finance team to support on ensuring intercompany position is maintained
  • Overseeing the implementation of and monitoring specific financial controls and adherence to systems;
  • Overseeing the charity’s financial risk‐management process

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a committed and passionate individual, who ideally would have

  • Strategic vision and good, independent judgement.
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • A strong commitment to the aims of The Fursa Trust and being a strong ambassador.
  • Passion for educational development and non-profit work
  • Understanding of financial administration in the charity sector (this would be helpful) 
  • Understanding of the management of charity resources, including internal financial controls, charity reserves and restricted funding (this would be helpful)
