Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

As the Senior Information Architect, you will be instrumental in shaping the structure and organisation of the new Criminal Justice Hub website.

What will you be doing?

Your role will involve designing and implementing a comprehensive information architecture (IA) that ensures our digital content is intuitive, accessible, and aligned with user needs. Collaborating closely with both the content and user research teams, you will ensure that the services navigation, categorisation, and overall structure serve our diverse user base effectively.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Information Architecture Planning and Execution: Lead the design and implementation of the IA strategy for the Criminal Justice Hub. Plan and execute the organisation, categorisation, and navigation structure to enhance user experience.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with content and user research teams to integrate IA principles throughout the service, ensuring a seamless and user-centered approach.
  • User Needs Analysis: Use research insights to guide the structure of content, ensuring it meets the needs of our users, especially those impacted by the criminal justice system.
  • Review and Refinement: Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the IA and make improvements based on user feedback and evolving content requirements.
  • Guideline Adherence: Ensure that the IA adheres to best practices and relevant guidelines, including the GOV.UK Service Manual, for an inclusive and accessible user experience.
  • Documentation: Create clear IA documentation, including sitemaps, wireframes, and content models, to guide the design and development process.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience: Extensive experience in information architecture, with a proven track record of designing and implementing effective IA for digital products.
  • Collaboration Skills: Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including content and user research, to ensure alignment and cohesion in the website’s structure.
  • User-Centered Approach: Deep understanding of user needs, with the ability to translate these insights into a logical and accessible IA.
  • Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in information architecture, UX design, library science, or a related field.
  • Guideline Familiarity: Familiarity with best practice guidelines, such as the GOV.UK Service Manual, to ensure that the IA meets accessibility and usability standards.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate IA concepts and present them to stakeholders.
  • Adaptability: A proactive individual who can navigate a complex project environment and adapt to evolving user and organisational needs.

What difference will you make?

Your work will directly contribute to building an accessible and user-friendly Criminal Justice Hub service that supports individuals affected by the criminal justice system. By creating an intuitive information structure, you will help ensure that vital resources are easy to find and navigate, making a real impact on the lives of those who use our services.
