The Apart of Me therapeutic game has been created to help young people who have experienced loss. It is now time to further develop and expand the game. Do you have with the skills and experience to help make this possible?

What will you be doing?

You will be working remotely on this project, but as part of our dedicated and passionate team of volunteers. We have specific goals in place and we hope that you will be able to help us to develop the game to achieve these to make the game more accessible and user friendly for those who are in need of this support.

Overview of the role:

  • Develop new game features and make continuous improvements to our platform
  • Write clean and maintainable code for cross-platform mobile games in C# using the Unity engine
  • Work in all phases of the development life-cycle with a focus on efficient and iterative coding
  • Be part of an expert engineering team with a coherent development approach and high level of technical quality
  • Work closely with those outside the engineering team to ensure that all aspects of the games are delivered to a high quality
  • Create tools, plugins and shared libraries to streamline development
  • Take responsibility for delivery and technical quality of game builds within your project

Our project has been built by professional games studios and is now maintained by the Apart of Me team. It is currently using Unity 2019, our source code is stored in Github and we use Unity cloud build server to create our builds.

What are we looking for?

You will have experience working as a developer on professional-quality games using the unity framework or similar.

You will have a good understanding of "best practice" in game development and software development more generally. You will be a creative problem solver, happy to throw yourself at any technical challenge and able to work within the constraints of a small charity with big aspirations.

What difference will you make?

The Apart of Me therapeutic game was created over 2 years ago and has had over 75,000 downloads. We have had fantastic feedback but we know that we can reach more young people and improve the game we have. This is the core of our work, and will make a huge difference to our charity and the vulnerable youngsters playing and benefiting.

What's in it for the volunteer?

This game is completely unique. You will be involved in something new and very different, while using your existing skills.  Your input will be very evident, and you will be able to build on your experience and have a real impact.

We have an amazing and dedicated team, and while you will need to be able to work remotely under your own steam, our Technical Manager and founder will be there for support and guidance.
