Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Would you like to help build a new Cycle Hub for Harrow? Are you great at organisation? We need a Secretary to the Board of Trustees to help make it happen.

What will you be doing?

We need a Board Secretary to ensure effective administration of the charity's governance and compliance with reporting obligations. We currently provide cycle training, inclusive sessions for disabled people, led rides (1200 attendances in 2024!), maintenance classes and more, with one part-time project manager and 50 volunteers. We have a temporary home on the former Civic Centre site. In 2025 we plan to move to a local park which will become our new permanent home. Our current work is very successful, but we can do so much more. As a Trustee you will support the Board in developing our plans for a new Cycle Hub for Harrow. This is a challenging time for any charity, but Harrow Council is behind us and we have a wide base of funding support. If you care about cycling, join us on this exciting ride.

What are we looking for?

  • Commitment to the vision and mission of Harrow Cycle Hub
  • Good administration skills including familiarity with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and use of a shared drive for file storage; ability to take concise and accurate minutes
  • Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgment and strategic vision
  • Acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  • Good communication skills
  • A team-oriented approach to problem solving
  • Willing to speak their mind, even on a difficult topic
  • Committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the charity’s work

What difference will you make?

The Secretary is key to ensuring that the charity works legally, efficiently and effectively to bring cycling to a wider audience in Harrow: changing the way we travel, improving local people's health and wellbeing, reducing social isolation, improving air quality and much more.

Before you apply

Please see the role description for the application process. Two trustees will meet you informally to answer your questions and if you like, arrange for you to see a cycling session. You can also attend a trustees' meeting before committing. If we take it forward, we shall ask you to complete an application form and provide two references and undergo an Enhanced DBS check, if you don't have a current one, at our expense.
