Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Can you help us make our Meatballs for Muscular Dystrophy campaign a muscletastic success? November 2024 is meatballs month, raising money so we can deliver more Muscle Dreams for children with Muscular Dystrophy

What will you be doing?

MHF is a multi award-winning small charity. You are a self-starter, a strong communicator, ideally with lots of social media experience, looking to make an impact. If you love meatballs or not, this is a campaign that's already caught the attention and support of many top chefs! This is a foodie fundraiser with a simple goal ~ to leverage the campaign by engaging the nation's appetite throughout the month of November by encouraging for example social influencers to support and in so doing, help make more Muscle Dream interventions a reality!

We are looking for a savvy social media volunteer to help us drive the campaign forwards. With support from MHF's CEO, you will have full autonomy across our chosen social channels to help make the campaign an even greater success in 2024. You'll have bags of energy, initiative and strong comms skills. This is a short term 4-month project. We have most assets already in place.

The key deliverable is to amplify awareness, exploiting social media by posting messages that will help generate campaign awareness and engagement. With your help, we want to make lots of 'social noise' in the lead up to November. Ideally, you will start this voluntary opportunity in Sept, building the social momentum across Sept & Oct, into Nov and then wrapping up in Dec.

In addition to MHF's CEO, you will work with one or two other volunteers, namely those with copy-writing and creative graphic skills in addition to a niche PR/comms contact to make sure that messaging is aligned and has impact across our social platforms.

We believe this role will lend itself brilliantly to someone who may not only be a bit of a foodie but who can also see the opportunity and who can make things happen - we've no doubt that it will be a fun short-term project, with tons of flexibility. We'll support the volunteer as much as we possibly can to ensure success. If you have a creative flair, if you've got great digital skills (including knowing how to use various social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and LinkedIn), we want to hear from you.

And finally, do you watch those fun foodie TV shows? Maybe you know some chefs or restaurant chains? Perhaps you know your way around the hospitality or catering world? Maybe, just maybe, you know people that might be interested in partnering with us on this campaign? If so, let's talk!

What are we looking for?

Skills, experience and qualities needed

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent social media skills and experience
  • Confidence to engage with social influencers
  • Influencer research ie. finding the best fit influencer to communicate the campaign to
  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative
  • Strong relationship building and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Keen attention to detail and accurate data entry skills (where required)
  • Dynamic, positive, confident, friendly and enthusiastic attitude/manner
  • Experience in campaign execution, events and making things happen
  • An interest in food (nice-to-have) and meatballs! (not essential) : )
  • Dedication, motivation and commitment in completing on the task
  • Commitment to what is essentially a 4-month (Sept-Dec) short-term project

Values and behaviours

  • Ideally a business savvy person who enjoys talking to and/or meeting people
  • A passionate, positive attitude that reflects the charity’s values
  • A commitment to the goals of this campaign
  • An understanding and appreciation of the impact that this campaign could have
  • A commitment to and an understanding of equal opportunities & diversity
  • To demonstrate great role-model behaviour at all times
  • Keen to make an impact

What difference will you make?

The charity has reached a really exciting point in its evolution ~ with your help, the awareness of this campaign will reach new heights.

Ultimately, you will be making a difference in helping us move a little closer to MHF's goal of delivering 657 Muscle Dreams for children and young people (8-28yrs) with Muscular Dystrophy, that’s one life-changing experience for every muscle in the human body.

For our Muscle Dream beneficiaries, every moment is an opportunity to realise their potential. For their family and friends, each one opens up a support network of like-minded individuals. That’s the power of our promise. That’s the #powerof657.

The pandemic has hit many small charities very hard, which is why we are looking to innovate and get creative in attracting and engaging new supporters. As always, our mission is 657 focused and if our Meatballs for Muscle Dreams campaign can help support the mission, you'll be playing a vital part as the charity's journey continues to unfold. Your efforts will we hope help us thrive at what is an exciting year ahead - a milestone year - our 21st Anniversary Year!

This campaign needs to be driven and so if you feel you have the time, skills, talents and passion to be part of an amazing team in helping us drive it forwards and by default, pay homage to the humble meatball, then go ahead and apply. We look forward to hearing from you. BIG thanks!

Before you apply

Please apply through the Reach Volunteering platform. As part of your online response, we invite applicants to provide a brief cover letter detailing why they are interested in the Meatballs for Muscular Dystrophy Project Champion role, specifically sharing relevant experience. Please note that all shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete MHF's additional Volunteer Application form as well as our Safeguarding requirements. Interviews will be conducted with the charity's CEO and a member of MHF's Trustee Board.
