We are looking for an experienced Safeguarding Professional to join the board of South Thames College Group as a Governor.  We ask that all our governors are enthusiastic about improving the life chances of the young people at our colleges.

What will you be doing?

South Thames Colleges Group (STCG) is one of London’s largest providers of post-16 education and training and is an ongoing and significant contributor to its local communities.  We aim to put students’ success at the heart of everything we do.  STCG is keen to hear from people who are interested in becoming a governor and can contribute to the work of the Board. We are looking for hard-working and collaborative people to join our team and through their challenge and scrutiny help our students to progress and achieve.

Governor appointments are based on skills and an ability to contribute at strategic level. The Corporation is looking specifically to recruit a governor with professional safeguarding experience and training. The role will include becoming Lead Governor for Safeguarding.

The Lead Safeguarding role includes liaising with the College Designated Safeguarding Lead about general child protection and broader safeguarding issues to ensure that College Governors receive appropriate reports to enable them to have adequate oversight including issues such as:

·     How safe students feel in college

·     How the voice of students is truly heard and appropriately acknowledged

·     That the college ensures consistent key safeguarding messages 

·     That the curriculum reflects risks for young people in the area, including on-line safety

·     How the college works with other agencies available to support students and families

 

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone whose work or voluntary experience includes Safeguarding responsibility and who has already completed or is willing to undertake Safeguarding training levels 1 and 2 .  The candidate needs to have up to date knowledge and skills of KCISE guidance to fulfil the role of  Lead Safeguarding Governor which involves oversight to check that the College meets the latest best practice, statutory guidance and legislation relating to safeguarding.

The Lead Governor for Safeguarding plays an important role in ensuring oversight and scrutiny of safeguarding policy, procedures and practice for the benefit of the young people and vulnerable adult learners at our colleges.
