Visitors from Fifth Day

Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

We need a volunteer researcher and writer to help produce material on our website supporting mentally troubled adults who are, or are at risk of becoming, entangled with the criminal justice system.

What will you be doing?

You will work mainly from home doing online research and writing for a website on policies and practices concerning how mentally troubled people can be helped to stay clear, or get clear, from the criminal justice system in England and Wales.  We are a small community charity working with others in the complex field in which mental disorders and neurodivergence intermesh with the criminal justice system.  Our charity is run by six trustees who were family or friends of Elly Tams (1970-2021) who died while affected by these issues.

What are we looking for?

We need someone with good experience and skills in writing educational and information materials for a general adult audience.

What difference will you make?

In our short history so far we have helped some existing mental health charities, such as "Together" and "Jami" develop learning materials for both staff and clients, mainly by giving cash grants but also with some personal contributions.  We have received some encouraging feedback from charities we have helped.  These experiences will guide our website project.

Before you apply

While not essential, we would like to hear about any experience you have of working with or for adults with a mental disorder or a neurodivergent condition (e.g. autism).

Causes
  • Health and well being / research and care
  • Organisation type:
    Small or unincorporated organisation

We are dedicated to providing more and better "alternative routes" for mentally troubled adults who are entangled with the Criminal Justice System, or at risk of becoming so entangled.
