The AVOCADO Foundation is a UK charity that operates to eradicate the economic inequalities experienced by underrepresented youth, non-profits, and entrepreneurs. We're seeking a passionate #WorldChanger to join our team as a Research Volunteer!

What will you be doing?

Main Purpose

We are seeking a proactive individual with an understanding of philanthropy, fundraising practices, donor motivations, and wealth indicators. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in fundraising and business development, supporting a charity dedicated to equipping youth with financial literacy skills.

The ideal candidate will have experience conducting structured research on high-net-worth individuals, company directors, or family trusts, ensuring compliance with data protection best practices. Strong communication skills, focus, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence are essential.

As part of the Business Development Team, you will contribute to expanding the charity’s prospect pipeline by conducting insightful research and identifying high-value opportunities. You will also help refine strategies and support progress on five, six, and seven-figure gifts through regular pipeline reviews.

 

Main areas of responsibilityWe are looking for a Prospect Research Volunteer who can aid with researching individuals, trusts and foundations and corporates to help the team in their efforts to generate funding for the charity, tasks will include: 

  • To identify suitable individuals, trusts and foundations and corporates against a set of criteria 
  • Review details of individuals, trusts and foundations and corporates in the UK and abroad, identifying and working towards funding deadlines 
  • Extract and capture key information to inform application strategies 
  • Provide support for the preparation of funding proposals   

Other requirements

  • This volunteer opportunity requires a weekly commitment and is remote. 
  • Maintaining awareness and ensuring compliance with organisational policies, including safeguarding, confidentiality, health & safety, and data protection.
  • Representing the organisation externally, promoting the work of the organization.
  • Undertaking any other duties that are required and commensurate with the level of the post.

What are we looking for?

Essential knowledge and experience

  • Strong research skills with an ability to present information clearly and concisely 
  • The ability to work independently 
  • Excellent IT and Microsoft Office skills, knowledge of Word and Excel are essential 
  • Knowledge of Salesforce is desirable 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential 
  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old 
  • An interest in fundraising in the charity sector 
  • Fundraising experience an advantage, though not essential 
  • Must have own laptop and use of the internet
