Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

As a Research and Insights Associate, you will be an integral part of the Research, Identity, and Outreach (RIO) team at Newington Green Alliance (NGA).

What will you be doing?

As a Research and Insights Associate, you will be an integral part of the Research, Identity, and Outreach (RIO) team at Newington Green Alliance (NGA). Your role will involve conducting in-depth research on academic literature, books, web content, and social media to support NGA’s mission of fostering understanding and empathy across differences.

Your research will directly inform the design of campaigns, workshops, educational materials, and partnership-building efforts, helping NGA create impactful and effective community projects. You will work as part of a small research subgroup, collaborating closely with other RIO team members, and providing your findings in accessible, usable formats for various teams and individuals across the organisation.

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful social change through research, while building your skills in content analysis, information synthesis, and collaborative project development.

What are we looking for?

Personal Attributes:

  • Curiosity and Analytical Thinking – You have a passion for learning and a keen interest in understanding complex social issues, particularly around empathy and social differences.
  • Detail-Oriented – You can dive deep into research and have a sharp eye for detail, ensuring that your findings are thorough and accurate.
  • Collaborative Spirit – You enjoy working as part of a team, sharing insights, and contributing to the collective success of the organisation.
  • Adaptability – You’re flexible and open to working with a variety of research materials, from academic literature to social media content, and can adjust your approach as needed.
  • Commitment to Social Change – You are motivated by a desire to contribute to projects that create positive, lasting social impact.

Skills and Experience:

  • Research Skills – Experience in conducting research using academic databases, online sources, and social media. Training and support will be available for volunteers eager to develop these skills further.
  • Information Synthesis – Ability to analyse and summarise research findings, making them accessible and relevant for different teams and projects.
  • Communication Skills – Strong written skills to present research in clear, concise formats for a variety of audiences.
  • Organisational Skills – The ability to manage your time effectively, track research progress, and ensure timely delivery of findings to the relevant teams.
  • Technical Skills – Basic proficiency with online research tools, Google Workspace, and any project management tools used by NGA. Support will be provided where needed.

Time Commitment: Volunteers are asked to commit to at least six months with NGA, dedicating an average of 2-3 hours per week to research activities and team communication.

Remote Work: This role includes some remote working, so volunteers must have reliable access to a stable internet connection.

Online Meetings: Volunteers will join regular online meetings to collaborate, share progress, and provide updates on completed tasks.

What difference will you make?

The Research and Insights Associate is a key member of the Research, Identity, and Outreach (RIO) team at Newington Green Alliance (NGA). The RIO team focuses on three main areas:

  1. Research: Conducting studies to build empathy and understanding across social divides, which informs NGA’s initiatives.
  2. Identity Development: Shaping NGA’s public image by crafting a clear, compelling identity that reflects its mission and values.
  3. Outreach and Behaviour Change: Engaging the community through digital campaigns and events that educate, influence behaviours, and encourage positive social change.
