Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Help us raise awareness of our neurodivergent-led charity by getting our stories into local and national media. We’re looking for someone with PR or journalism experience to help share our message and grow understanding of our work.

What will you be doing?

We’re a small, neurodivergent-led charity offering free tech education and wellbeing support to young people aged 14–25. Our programmes are inclusive, empowering, and life-changing — but we need help making sure people hear about them.

We’re looking for someone with PR or media experience who believes in the power of real stories to shift narratives, raise awareness, and build community.

We know we have something powerful to say — about inclusion, about possibility, about what neurodivergent young people can achieve when given the right support. We just need help getting that message into the world.

You might be:

  • A journalist, editor, or producer with experience placing meaningful stories
  • A PR or communications professional who wants to use their skills to support social change
  • A media officer, campaigner, or storyteller from a charity background
  • A freelancer or publicist with creative ideas and a network of contacts
  • Someone with lived experience who’s worked in media and knows how to guide authentic storytelling

You can help us by:

  • Advising us on how to shape and share our stories
  • Supporting us to write or pitch press releases, blogs, or op-eds
  • Connecting us with journalists or outlets who care about youth, inclusion, and community impact
  • Helping us develop a light-touch media strategy to build visibility over time
  • Making sure our learners and team are represented with dignity and strength

You don’t need to commit lots of time — we’re open, flexible, and happy to work around your availability. What we value most is your insight and your heart for our mission.

If you believe that neurodivergent stories matter, and you know how to get the right story into the right hands — we’d love to work with you.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who understands the power of media — not for promotion, but for connection, understanding, and change. You’ll have experience working in or with the media and know how to spot and shape a story that matters.

This role is ideal for someone who can help us share the real voices behind our work — those of neurodivergent young people, and our team who are creating inclusive pathways into tech and wellbeing. You’ll be helping us build visibility, credibility, and a sense of belonging — by getting our stories into the right places.

You might be:

  • A current or former journalist, editor, or producer
  • A PR professional with experience securing coverage for charities, campaigns or community organisations
  • A media officer or comms specialist at a nonprofit or social enterprise
  • A freelancer or publicist with strong writing skills and an interest in inclusion and youth empowerment
  • A broadcast or digital media creative with insight into platforms and audiences
  • Someone with lived experience of neurodivergence who’s worked in media and wants to support authentic storytelling

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Help us shape our stories in a way that’s engaging, ethical, and aligned with our values
  • Identify the kinds of media (local, national, specialist, digital) where our work could be featured
  • Support us with writing or reviewing press materials (press releases, op-eds, human interest stories, etc.)
  • Provide introductions or connections, or advise us on approaching journalists or editors
  • Help us build a basic strategy to raise awareness over time in a sustainable way

We’re not aiming for headlines for the sake of it — we want thoughtful, values-led storytelling that helps the public, press, and partners understand who we are, why our work matters, and how they can support us.

If you’re someone who cares deeply about representation, believes in the importance of neurodivergent voices being heard, and understands how media attention can help small organisations grow, we’d love your support.

We are flexible on time commitment and happy to work around your schedule. Whether you’re offering a one-off strategic review or longer-term guidance, your insight could help us be seen and understood in ways that truly matter.

What difference will you make?

Your support will help shine a light on the strengths, voices, and experiences of neurodivergent young people — and the work we’re doing to empower them.

By helping us raise our profile, you’ll play a key role in:

  • Increasing awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing our community
  • Helping us reach new schools, families, partners, and funders
  • Attracting more people to join us — as learners, volunteers, champions, or allies
  • Strengthening our credibility as a grassroots organisation with lived experience at its core
  • Creating more visibility around what inclusive, neurodivergent-led solutions can look like

We know that the stories we’re holding — from our learners, our team, and our lived experience — have the power to inspire change. Your help will ensure they’re heard.

Even one powerful feature, connection, or strategy could make a huge difference in how far our message travels — and who it reaches next.
