Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Help us support the most vulnerable in society by providing strategic guidance and oversight for a growing Community Interest Company tackling poverty, disability, and financial hardship.

What will you be doing?

Fortis Advisory CIC is a non-profit Community Interest Company based in Scotland. We exist to support the most vulnerable in society - those experiencing poverty, disability, addiction, or financial hardship -by identifying gaps in existing services and working to fill them. Our key services include benefit and debt advice, financial guidance, and our innovative FoodGuard voucher scheme, which supports individuals struggling to manage money effectively.

We’re now seeking a second Non-Executive Director (volunteer) to help strengthen our governance and meet the criteria required by several current and future grant funders. The role is strategic and advisory, not operational, and can be carried out entirely remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Join monthly board meetings via video call (remote).
  • Review all grant and funding applications before submission, offering insight and feedback.
  • Provide general oversight by asking relevant questions and offering suggestions to help us stay focused on our mission.
  • Ensure the CIC is heading in the right direction by providing occasional advice and holding us to account when needed.

This is a light-touch governance role, ideal for someone with a background in social impact, public service, community development, funding, finance, or charity governance. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and lived experiences.

Time commitment:

  • Around 2-4 hours per month.
  • Monthly board meeting and ad-hoc document reviews (grant applications, partnerships).

You’ll be joining a small, committed CIC at an exciting point of growth. If you’re passionate about social change and want to make a difference without a large time commitment, we’d love to hear from you.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with experience in at least one of the following areas: governance, community work, fundraising, strategic planning, or organisational policy. Strong communication skills and the ability to ask insightful questions are essential. You don’t need to be an expert in everything - we value your ability to provide guidance, review funding applications, and help keep us accountable to our mission. This is a light-touch, advisory role suited to someone who wants to make a positive difference through strategic support rather than day-to-day involvement.

What difference will you make?

Your role will help unlock funding and expand services for people who are often left behind—those living with disabilities, addictions, or serious financial hardship. By joining our board, you will help us stay accountable, focused, and effective in our mission. This isn’t a hands-on operational role; your strategic advice and occasional oversight will help guide our growth and ensure we remain on track to make a real difference.

Before you apply

Please include a short message explaining why you're interested in this role and how your experience could support our mission. If shortlisted, we’ll arrange a short informal chat via video call. No additional forms are required.
