We are a local charity, affiliated with MIND.  We need to expand the skill mix of our trustees to include people with strategic financial planning experience and those with marketing or fundraising experience.

What will you be doing?

We are a succesful mental health charity and have a great reputation locally for the services we provide. Our board and senior management team are a committed and resourceful group. As with many charities we work within a changeable ecosystem of finance and need to be agile in the way we manage our resources to the best advantage.  We have a group of trustees who have a wide variety of skills, including financial management, but we feel we need to further develop our board particulary looking at longer term strategic financial planning.

Marketing and fundraising will form an integral part in helping us fulfill our charitable purpose. This is an area of work which needs developing as we look forward to evolving our services. We would therefore welcome applications from people with these backgrounds, as we hope and expect to expand our board membership.

What are we looking for?

We would like a trustee with experience of strategic business planning - the bigger picture rather than day to day finance.  Presenting often complex financial concepts to other non-financial trustees would be helpful. Understanding the difference between business and charity accounts would be useful. We will shortly be embarking on some work with Cranfield trust and so liaising and using this to our best advantage would be helpful.

As we develop our startegic planning, fundamental to this is, of course, our income.  Producing a marketing strategy and work on fundraising is therefore a priority for us at this stage in our development. We have good networks and are an influential organisation but there is work I am sure that we could do in this area.  We have a small social media presence which could be expanded.

We are a collaborative board and have good relationships with each other and the senior management team. Respectful listening and consensus building is at the core of the way we work, recognising that sometimes challenge and further thinking will be needed .

What difference will you make?

Our mission is  "We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We are here for you, whether you’re stressed, depressed or worried about someone else. We’ll listen, give support, and fight your corner."

I can honestly say we strive to achieve this in all we do.  At each board meeting someone will present a short 'case study' just reminding us all of the human stories that make our work meaningful.

As a trustee you will have a real opportunity to help shape the strategic progression of our charity, so that we may continue to support those in real need.
