An exciting opportunity for a new director (trustee) to join SEN TALK CIC as it embarks on a significant new phase.

What will you be doing?

We seek an effective director who will actively demonstrate their dedication to the organisation's vision and values while fully committing the time and effort needed to drive it toward its strategic goals and objectives. They will be able to demonstrate independent judgement and a willingness to speak their mind on matters that impact the organisation's overall effectiveness. They will also be able to think creatively, problem-solve, and work constructively within the board. Directors must thoroughly understand and accept trusteeship's legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities.

Leading roles and responsibilities for Board members

  • Ensure that the organisation pursues its stated objects (purposes) defined in its governing document and help develop and agree on a long-term strategy to achieve this.
  • Ensure that the organisation complies with its governing documents, such as the constitution, memorandum, and articles of association.
  • Ensuring the organisation complies with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • Ensuring that the organisation only uses its resources for its charitable objectives. The charity must not spend money on activities not included in its objectives, even if they are considered worthwhile or charitable.
  • Ensuring the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets.
  • Safeguarding the good name and values of the organisation.
  • Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation. This includes having appropriate policies and procedures in place.
  • Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation.
  • Protecting and managing the charity's property and ensuring the charity’s funds are invested properly.
  • Following proper and formal arrangements for the chief executive's appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration (if the organisation employs staff).
  • Provide advice and guidance on new initiatives
  • Advising on issues where the director may have unique expertise, such as finance, HR, comms, and marketing.
  • Constructively review board papers and appendices to contribute to the discussion of key issues

Experience, knowledge and skill requirements

Essential

Experience operating at a senior strategic leadership level within an organisation

Experience within the charity sector

Experience in charity governance and or working with or as part of a Board of Trustees or Directors

Experience in governance, meetings and events

Broad knowledge of the voluntary sector and current issues affecting it

Experience in reviewing board papers and developing action plans

Experience in strategic planning

Good understanding of UK GDPR and Data Protection 2018

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Good knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection Laws and Regulations, including vulnerable adults

Excellent organisation and project management

Positive attitude to problem-solving

Strong IT skills

Desired

Knowledge of Community Interest Company structures 

Lived- experience of Autism or ADHD

Experience in strategic planning

Financial management expertise and a broad understanding of charity finance issues

Experience writing policies, procedures and relevant compliance measures.

Good knowledge of UK GDPR and Data Protection 2018

Experience in financial management, budgets and reporting

Experience in progress evaluating and monitoring

The new directors will facilitate the organisation's growth and ensure its long-term stability. Board members will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation's activities meet its strategic aims, mission, and ethos. They will also provide essential scrutiny in operational areas and ensure the organisation's lawful and ethical compliance.
