We expect the trustee role to take approximately 1-2 days a month.

LinkAble provides exciting activities for children and adults with learning disabilities. We are seeking a qualified accountant to provide advice on our strategy, particularly financially.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a trustee with a finance background, preferably a qualified accountant who lives in Woking or the surrounding areas. Suitable qualifications would be ACA, ACCA and CIMA. Our in-house accountant prepares all of our financial documentation and submissions: accounts and budgets etc and they would appreciate having an experienced accountant as a sounding board and check & balance. It would be ideal if you are up to date with recent financial regulations.

Evening Trustee meetings are held about every 6 weeks. Induction and training is provided, as is support from an experienced and knowledgeable trustee and staff team. The Finance trustee would chair the Finance Committee as well as contributing more widely. The time commitment overall is roughly 1-2 days a month.

This is a great opportunity to make the most of your time whether it be by  “putting something back” or building up your skills and experience for your future career. LinkAble makes a big difference in the lives of its service users – you could make a big difference to the charity. Our trustees say that they love attending our events and sessions where they can meet our service users and see directly what a difference the charity makes in people's lives.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a trustee with a range of skills but specifically a qualified accountant who is up to date with recent financial regulations. Generally we look for the following in all our trustees:

  1. A demonstrable understanding of and commitment to LinkAble and its strategic objectives
  2. An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  3. An ability to analyse information; use good, independent judgment; and a willingness to challenge constructively when necessary
  4. An ability to work professionally and respectfully as a member of a team, making collective decisions which support the vision and mission
  5. A willingness to devote the time and effort needed

LinkAble is a small charity with a community feel. Trustees  often attend fundraising events and other events organised by the charity. This is by no means compulsory; it's simply one of the many enjoyable aspects of the role.

What difference will you make?

As a member of the Board of Trustees you will:

  • Provide strategic oversight and leadership, ensuring that LinkAble pursues its stated objectives through its vision and mission
  • Ensure that LinkAble operates in accordance with the principles of good governance, complying with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  • Provide guidance and support as LinkAble seeks to grow to reach more service users in Woking and Surrey Heath

What's in it for the volunteer?

LinkAble is a small charity which offers the opportunity to work with a friendly team. If you are looking for a role where you will be able to meet and speak with the service users who benefit from the work of the charity then LinkAble is definitely a charity you should consider a trustee role with. Our trustees tend to live locally and this is a great way to expand your network. You will be contributing to Linkable's strategy, decision-making and acting as Chair of the Finance committee. If you are interested in other areas you can expand your experience by joining other committees.
