Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Help to guide this fast-moving charity. Bring your well-honed legal experience to bear and help develop our business strategy over the next few, transformative years.

What will you be doing?

Sport in Mind Trustee, Legal specialist

Sport in Mind's mission is to improve the health and well-being of people experiencing mental health problems through sport and physical activity.

Our charity delivers supported sport and physical activity sessions to people with mental health problems.

Skills

Legal Trustee. The charity raises funds through public organisations linked to the NHS and other national bodies, corporate partnerships, events and donations. The funds are then spent on the provision of sport sessions to improve the health and well-being of people experiencing mental health problems.

As part of our activities we regularly require a legal mind to help identify risks and guide us where professional legal help would be recommended.

Where

The office is based in Reading but most trustee meetings are held virtually.

Time

Either in or out of office hours Estimate of time needed:Attend Trustee Board meeting once every two months, normally early evening. Review documents and provide advice and guidance in between, approx. 1- 2 days per month on average.

What will you be doing?

Joining a small team of Trustee Board members you would be the Legal specialist to provide expertise in Board discussions and provide advice and support to the operational team as and when needed. This is a growing and developing charity where advice and expertise from specialists is valuable to ensure that optimal processes and systems can be put in place that will enable growth and ensure efficient use of resources. The Legal role is key to our team as the charity grows and develops and the person will work on a pro bono basis with other Trustee Board members who each have specialist skills. This is an opportunity to contribute as a Board member and to give some time to a charity that has won awards for the work it is doing in supporting people with mental health problems, through the delivery of sports and physical activity sessions across the south of England. No set hours are required, though the Trustee is expected to attend Board meetings on a bi-monthly basis (may be remotely) and provide a range of advice and guidance in between.

What are we looking for?

The ideal person will have a Legal background ideally working currently as a charity or commercial solicitor.

Sport in Mind is a small growing organisation so the work is akin to working with a small start up organisation. An interest in mental health and sport would be helpful.

What difference will you make?

The role of Legal Trustee is essential to the proper operation of the Trustee Board and the charity as a whole.
