Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

We need someone with premises management experience or similar to help plan our capital improvements, specify works needed, liaise with trades & suppliers & make recommendations to our CEO & Board

What will you be doing?

We would of course agree with you the exact shape of this role, but we envisage some of the key tasks to be:

  • Meet regularly with our CEO, to agree a range of premises tasks to take forward (eg, ‘secure 3 quotes for the replacement of the boiler and radiators’; ’identify all potential areas for additional built-in storage’  ‘consider responses to issues identified in our Accessibility Audit’ etc)
  • Contact and liaise with suppliers or contractors as needed to provide specific and sufficiently detailed information about what’s required, and to receive quotes / timescales etc. (This is an important area as in order to apply for capital funding we need comparable quotations for the work)
  • Help to co-ordinate a small group (2-3) other volunteers to support you in these tasks
  • Provide feedback to CEO / Link Trustee and make formal recommendations for action or purchase, including provision of quotations

This is a new kind of volunteer role for us, and you'd be seen as an integral part of our team - we need specialist skills and experience to help us moved forward with our planned capital improvements!  You would liaise regularly with our CEO, and receive support both from him and from our Volunteer Co-ordinator.  We are a grassroots organisation and very collaborative, your input as a professional would be valued and listened to; and the outcome we hope would be that we can make real improvements to this extremely well used and much loved community resource - meeting the vision in our Business Plan 'to transform our historic building and spaces into inspirational contemporary places that enable our community to thrive'

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone with professional experience in Premises Management, property refurbishment or similar; who is experienced in liaising with suppliers and trades and based in or close to Lancaster.

We'd like you to be interested in our focus (community and arts) and able to liaise with other volunteers, staff and trustees. We are a friendly bunch, and you'd be made very welcome.

We will agree the exact shape of this role with you of course; but we envisage that a comittment of 8-10 hours per month might be about right (flexible hours, although at least some would need to be in the working week)

What difference will you make?

Your invaluable help will guide us to make the right decisions around our capital development plans, and therefore to ensure our Community & Arts Centre continues to be a safe, welcoming space for all

Before you apply

No application form, we select volunteers on basis of meeting with them. No regulated activity. We would be happy to meet with any potential volunteers to show them around and discuss exactly what we're looking for.  We would just need to know where they are based in addition to the info re their interest and work history
