Limited internal audit of fraud risks - 4-5 days work estimated/ flexible delivery and remote working
The Royal Institution (‘the Ri’) is seeking a volunteer to carry out an internal audit of its fraud risk controls
About us
The Royal Institution (Ri) is a renowned and vibrant independent charity that brings the public and scientists together to share their interest and passion for science. We are a home for science and everyone is welcome. You may know us from our annual BBC CHRISTMAS LECTURES. You can find out about our strategy, impact, everything we do and the benefits of membership online. Our base is in central London.
The Role
The Audit and Risk Committee are looking for someone to carry out an independent, one off internal audit to test if we comply with Charity Commission guidance and check our fraud risk controls. We have a lot of different activities going on. The Ri is a listed building, we are a museum and public space where we love doing demonstrations in our beautiful theatre and laboratory. It is also our workplace shared with tenants. The Ri is not large enough to have an internal audit resource but is committed to using audit findings to develop our practice, inform our decision making and ensure good governance. We need your help with that.
The role is voluntary and unpaid but we do give you three free tickets to our events as a thank you.
Time commitment
We expect that the audit will take 4-5 days maximum including time to review key documents, carry out the audit and report back. We are flexible about how the audit is achieved and aim to fit in with your other commitments or needs. We work in a hybrid way and so you do not have to live or work in London.
Everyone is welcome at the Ri, so if you think you can help us, whatever your background or relevant experience, please get in touch.
Ideally you will have experience in fraud risks, internal audit and possibly relevant charity guidance. This is not a cybersecurity audit but knowledge of social engineering will be important. We are looking for someone who can test if we are following our policies, procedures and our awareness of the risks in practice. It might be helpful if you have experience with charities but this is not necessary.
You will help us to test our risk controls, help us raise risk awareness, improve our fraud risk assurance and help a great charity ensure good governance.
How to apply
Please send a brief CV and supporting letter - no more than three pages in total. We are most interested in your relevant experience in internal audit and, if you have it, working with charities and people. Please also let us know why you would like to help the Ri with this work.
