Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

This volunteer role involves supporting predominately Asian & African older people to use IT technology and get online safely.

What will you be doing?

We are a community hub in a very diverse area of Coventry, who provide a range of activities and services to meet local need. There is currently an Adult Education Centre near to us that offers advanced ICT classes, therefore we offer 'first steps' sessions for those who need support or a boost in their confidence when using IT or going online.

We hope to develop and increase ICT opportunities to include sessions leading people in to employment.

As part of this role you will be responsible for -

  • The development and delivery of our weekly ICT sessions
  • Developing lesson plans for a variety of abilities
  • Assisting in the support, mentoring & review of learner support within sessions

You will also be asked to -

  • Work with BSH administration to maintain confidential records, monitor, review and evaluate work in line with quality standards.
  • Comply with all of BSH policies and procedures and legislative requirements

What are we looking for?

This role does not require specific qualifications but does require -

  • A comprehensive understanding of online access, social media platforms and other online opportunities
  • A broad knowledge of IT technology including both Android and Apple products
  • Excellent people skills

What difference will you make?

One of the most significant benefits of technology for seniors is the ability to communicate and socialize and combat isolation. Many seniors find themselves separated from friends and family due to physical distance or mobility limitations. This greatly contributes to feeling lonely and even depression.
