Maidstone Homeless Care (MHC) is seeking a passionate and experienced HR professional to join our Board of Trustees. This voluntary role is a chance to use your skills to support the team behind our essential services—shaping an inclusive and supportive working environment.
Where We Are Now
For over 30 years, MHC has helped people in Maidstone facing homelessness or crisis. Our day centre, food bank, and supported accommodation offer a vital safety net. As demand grows, our staff and volunteers are under increasing pressure, and ensuring their wellbeing and development is more important than ever.
Our board is focused on strengthening internal processes, supporting staff and volunteers, and ensuring our HR practices are fair, effective, and compliant. We are now looking for a trustee with HR experience to help guide us through this next stage of development.

As our HR Trustee, you’ll advise on all people-related matters—supporting the board and staff team with practical guidance and strategic oversight. You’ll help ensure we recruit well, support our people effectively, and meet our responsibilities as an employer.

Advisory Role
This role requires around 5 hours per month, including monthly board meetings (second Tuesday, 5–7pm). No prior trustee experience is required—training and support are provided. Join us and use your HR expertise to support the people changing lives.
We’re looking for someone with solid HR experience who is ready to use their expertise to make a real difference. You might be a generalist, HR manager, consultant, or retired professional—what matters most is your ability to bring practical knowledge and good judgement to the board.
You’ll need a strong understanding of UK employment law, HR policies and procedures, and experience dealing with matters such as recruitment, performance, employee wellbeing, or compliance. Experience in the charity or voluntary sector is a bonus, but not essential.
As a trustee, you’ll be expected to take a strategic view, while also being willing to offer practical support when needed. You should be comfortable advising on sensitive HR issues, and confident engaging with staff and trustees in a constructive and respectful way.
You’ll also need to be a team player—someone who listens well, contributes thoughtfully, and can help shape fair and inclusive HR practices that reflect the values of Maidstone Homeless Care.
