Time

There is no charity office. Work would be undertaken at home & attendance at 4 main Committee meetings a year and contribution to other workstreams

Treasurer needed in Clare, Suffolk.  This is a varied role supporting the running of the charity which focuses on the management of Clare Common, allotments, almshouses, other charitable possessions and educational grants.

What will you be doing?

Strategic

● To assist and advise in the formation of the Charity’s strategic plan with particular regard to ensuring that the Charity has the resources to deliver the strategy and the financial implications of doing so

Financial

  • Overseeing and presenting budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees
  • Leading in the Board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements
  • Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the Charity
  • Overseeing the implementation of and monitoring specific financial controls and adherence to systems

Assets and Investments

  • Leading in the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost management and investment policies
  • To ensure that the Charity monitors the performance of its investments
  • To ensure that all equipment and assets are adequately maintained and accounted for

Governance

  • To ensure that the Board is aware of its financial duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with all legislation
  • To ensure that all financial policies, procedures and the appointment of external financial advisors are reviewed on a regular basis
  • To ensure that the Board’s scheme of delegation is reviewed on a regular basis
  • To act as Chair of the Finance sub-committee

What are we looking for?

Essential

  • A recognised book-keeping or accountancy qualification (see below)
  • Knowledge and experience of current finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations and specifically charities (SORP)
  • Good financial analytical skills
  • Enthusiasm and energy to contribute to a charity

Desirable

  • Demonstrable record with a previous organisation
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Knowledge of book-keeping and financial management (as an alternative to formal qualifications)
