We need volunteers to come to the Centre in Pimlico on Fridays during term time - 3.30 - 5.30pm

Do you have 3 years of teaching experience?  We are seeking new volunteers to join our homework club that provides learning support to local children who cannot get this help at home.  

What will you be doing?

Summary of Role

Volunteers sit on a table with 1-2 children and provide help with their homework; maths and English work mostly, and some reading.  Volunteers commit to one session a week on Fridays during term time (3.30 – 5.30pm).  

What will you be doing?

  • Helping children aged 8 – 12 with homework, mostly English, maths and some project work.

What is the time commitment?

  • Autumn Term 2022 and Spring Term 2023
  • Fridays, 3.30 – 5.30pm at The Cardinal Hume Centre in Pimlico

How will you be supported?

  • You will be supported by the Family Services Manager and Volunteer Coordinator. 
  • Child safeguarding e-learning module is mandatory for all new volunteers.
  • You will be reimbursed for travel expenses.

What are we looking for?

  • You have at least 3 years teaching experience at primary school level
  • You are friendly, patient and have rapport with children easily.
  • Able to help with maths and English at primary school level.

Homework Club is part of our delivery of child and family support services, in order that low income and vulnerable families have improved access to services, employment opportunities and life chances.  You will see the progress the child is making.

Before you apply

Thank you for your interest in our homework club!  This role involves informal face-to-face interview at the Centre.  If accepted, we will obtain ideally two references (as part of our safe recruitment practice) and a DBS check which we will administer and pay for. You will have an induction with a volunteer coordinator.
