Governors help us achieve our purpose - to transform individuals and build communities through education.. Board experience is not required, with a detailed induction and training provided.

What will you be doing?

A little bit about us:

East Coast College is a well-established further education college with campuses in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth, offering a fantastic breadth and depth of subjects and technical and professional training for schools leavers and adults up to degree level.

A little bit about the Governor role:

Our Governors role is to support and challenge and help the College achieve its strategic objectives.

The Board includes independent governors, CEO/Principal and staff and student governors. Collectively, individual governors contribute their professional, specialist and general management skills.

Time Commitment for Meetings - Our meetings tend to be for a couple of hours on a Tues morning starting at 9am with 5 Full Board meetings, 4 Committee meetings and 1 Full Away Day a year in person.

(Associate Governor - If you can not commit the amount of time required for a full governor we are also looking for Governors to bring their specialist knowledge and experience to our committees such as Finance or Quality - This means your meeting commitment is about 4 committees a year.) 

Annual Commitment

As a Governor your annual commitment includes:

Minimum attendance target of 80% 

Participation in:

  • Learning Walks, celebrations and meetings with staff and students
  • strategic planning 
  • self-assessment and review of the College and the Corporation, self and Chair
  • training sessions and reading briefing and reference documents circulated to you by the Director of Governance
  • feedback on events and meetings and suggesting improvements where appropriate
  • Acting as advocates for the College in the wider Community

Team ECC's Board supports the College team to make a significant and lasting impact on education and the community we serve.

It is an exciting time to join the Board we are refreshing and refocusing our Strategy, have a number of exciting projects in development including the redevelopment of our Great Yarmouth campus and are looking to move from Ofsted Good towards aspects of outstanding.

As a governor you will develop valuable experience in governance and leadership whilst collaborating with other dedicated individuals who share a passion for education and the region.
