Do you have knowledge and experience in the construction industry as a civil engineer or quantity surveyor?  Can you help us build a new college campus?

What will you be doing?

United Colleges Group (UCG) is looking to appoint a co-opted Corporation Member to join the Property & Infrastructure Committee. United Colleges Group, formed by the merger of City of Westminster College and College of North West London in August 2017, is based at the heart of the further education sector in London.  UCG’s aims are to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all through high-quality post-16 and adult education and training.  The focus is on delivery to raise the educational attainment for young people and the skill levels of adults, working in partnership with schools, colleges, universities, borough councils and employers to secure benefits for London and Londoners. UCG’s turnover is in the region of £50m.

The reason for this appointment is that UCG is in the process of rebuilding its college estate in Wembley. The aim is to transform the College of North West London to attract the students of the future and provide the best learning environment for generations to come.  As a member of the Property & Infrastructure Committee you will be closely involved with the redevelopment project overseeing and providing expertise to support the project’s success.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience of the construction industry, through professions such as civil engineering, construction, architecture, chartered or quantity surveying, or equivalent plus an understanding of how buildings can enhance learning experiences.  Experience of working at a senior level in large complex organisation and knowledge of FE or the wider education sector such as universities would be an advantage.

What difference will you make?

Although this is an unpaid role, your rewards come in the form of being an intrinsic part of the strategic thinking and decision-making, which will deliver life-changing opportunities for our young people and adults to enable them to make a significant contribution to the world of work and their communities within London.

Before you apply

Applicants should provide a copy of their CV with a covering letter setting out why they are interested in the role and what attributes they feel they can bring to it.  United Colleges Group is an Equal Opportunities employer.  All governors are expected to complete an enhanced DBS check on appointment.
