Governor
The Learning without Limits Academy Trust is seeking an individual to join its Local Governing Body at either one of its three secondary schools or two primary schools.
What will you be doing?
The Learning without Limits Academy Trust is seeking a volunteer to serve as a Governor at one of it schools situated in Leicester/Leicestershire. As a governor, you will work with other governors to
- provide support and challenge with regard to the strategic approach which drives the operation of the academy in terms of learning, standards, safety and wellbeing.
- act as a critical friend to the Principal and to advise the Trust Board about local issues they need to consider that affect the academy
- represent the interests of the academy community in the running of the academy and to represent the academy in its community.
- provide support to the Principal in undertaking appropriate day to day procedures that are essential to the life of the academy, such as disciplinary and complaint procedures
- hold the academy leadership to account for academic performance, quality of care & provision.
- support the Trust Board and its committees in relation to proper use of funds & delivering high quality educational provision
- engage with pupils, staff, parents and the wider academy community to understand their views
The successful candidate will be passionate about making a tangible difference in children’s lives, particularly those facing educational and social disadvantage.
Time Commitment
There is an expectation that Governors will give sufficient time to their role. Documents will be read in advance of meetings and Governors need to be prepared to ask questions/challenge at the meetings based on the information they have been provided. It is anticipated that the role will require attendance at four LGB meetings per year which are each scheduled to last two hours.
Governors also have roles as a Link Governors. This is where a member of the governing board is appointed to oversee a specific aspect of the work of the school. Such positions include
· A lead for the School’s Safeguarding arrangements
· A lead for the School’s special educational needs and disability (SEND) provision
In addition, it is also hoped that Governors will attend a variety of events that the academy holds during the year in an ambassadorial role for the academy. Governors will also be invited to take part in ongoing professional development opportunities throughout the year/to complete in their own time.
What are we looking for?
Applicants could come from a range of backgrounds. Fundamentally, applicants must be people-oriented leaders with a gift for fostering engagement and collaboration and getting the best out of diverse groups of people. We are looking for someone who has at least three years experience in one of the key skill areas we have identified:
- Governance
- HR
- Safeguarding
- Teaching / Education
- Training
