Visitors from Fifth Day

Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Be the first to shape Social Links’ fundraising strategy and help build vital support for isolated adults in homelessness services. A unique opportunity to make a real impact in a new charity.

What will you be doing?

We are seeking a motivated, creative, and solution-focused volunteer to work closely with the Co-Founders and Board to develop and deliver a fundraising strategy that supports our vital work.

We are committed to recruiting based on skills, values, and attitude. Fundraising experience is welcome but not essential—we’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive, and ready to learn.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Identifying and applying for grants and fundraising opportunities
  • Planning and helping to deliver fundraising events and initiatives
  • Approaching small businesses for corporate giving and sponsorship opportunities
  • Contributing ideas and energy to help shape our fundraising strategy

Time Commitment

As a new charity, the role is likely to be more front-loaded.

  • We’re ideally looking for someone who can give 3–4 hours per week for the next 3–6 months.
  • We expect this time commitment to reduce as the fundraising function becomes more established.
  • There may be a future leadership opportunity for the right person as the role develops.

Working With Us

You will:

  • Work closely with the Co-Founders and Boar
  • Receive support and supervision every 4–6 weeks (from one of the Co-Founders)
  • Have flexibility to work mainly remotely, with occasional in-person meetings and attendance at fundraising events

What are we looking for?

Knowledge and experience

  1. Ability to take responsibility for and lead with achieving a fundraising target/targets.
  2. Understanding of fundraising in the charity sector.
  3. An understanding of the issues that can contribute to homelessness and living in homelessness services.
  4. Proven track record of fundraising income, ideally from a variety of streams.

Skills and abilities:

  1. A positive, solution-focused, creative approach.
  2. Strategic in outlook, with the ability to contribute towards and help lead with the creation of our future strategy and plans.
  3. Outstanding team-working, collaborative, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  4. Ability to write compelling and robust bids and tenders.

Styles and behaviours:

  1. Strong commitment to Social Links’ values and its mission.
  2. Strong and demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  3. Willingness to promote the work of the charity through your own social and professional contacts and participation in marketing and fundraising activities.

What difference will you make?

As a small charity not supported by statutory funding or service contracts, we rely on fundraised income to continue our work. Without this support, our befrienders wouldn’t be able to reach many isolated, lonely, and vulnerable adults living in homelessness services. Your contribution will help ensure we can build meaningful connections and make a lasting difference in people’s lives.

Before you apply

  • We greatly welcome informal Zoom chats and calls with those who might be interested in applying. This gives you a chance to get a feel for us and the charity beyond our website.
  • If you would like to apply, please provide a cover letter outlining your interest in the role and addressing each of the 11 points of the Role Description. Please use examples to demonstrate how you meet each point of the role description.
  • Successful applicants will be invited to a 30-40 minute online informal interview.
  • Although there is a closing date below, we are likely to consider applications as they come through.
