Trustee with up-to-date experience and knowledge of fundraising to join the Board and help deliver our objectives. You will be the lead trustee in terms of applying your individual strengths to help guide and evolve our fundraising strategy
The contribution of trustees to the work of Home-Start is varied and challenging, as well as being hugely rewarding. Guiding staff and home-visiting volunteers, they are an essential element in delivering life-changing support to families in the community.
Home-Start trustees should expect to spend around 2-6 hours a month on their duties. It’s an important role, carrying legal and financial responsibilities, which will require time and commitment.
You will receive a thorough induction, access to a national Home-Start UK intranet full of information and guidance, and the continuing support of staff and your fellow trustees

Responsibilities
- Providing leadership and direction within the ethos and values of Home-Start charities.
- Ensuring that the scheme has a clear mission, vision and strategic direction and is focussed on achieving these
- Ensuring that the scheme complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, the objects of the charity, the governing documents including the Home-Start Standards and Methods of Practice and the Agreement and quality standards
- Securing and acting as guardians of the scheme’s assets
- Ensuring that the scheme’s governance is of the highest possible standard, including by appointing sub-committees and agreeing their terms of reference
- Ensuring the financial stability of the scheme and that proper accounting records are kept
- Ensuring that the major risks to which the scheme is exposed are reviewed annually and managed
- Ensuring the scheme fulfils its responsibilities as a good employer and is an effective manager and supervisor of staff and volunteers
- Safeguarding the good name and ethos of Home-Start.
Duties
- Attending and participating in meetings of trustees including sitting on committees.
- Supporting the development of the organisation’s strategy.
- Working with the other members of the trustee board to ensure the effective administration of the charity, that it is compliant with all relevant regulations and is managing its finances and investments appropriately.

- Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.
- Ability to be creative and think strategically.
- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
