TechStart is a new startup focussed on creating real change for young people who are unemployed and NEET.

What will you be doing?

For a full overview of our TechStart programme please visit www.techstart.org.uk - What we Do.

Our believe is that young people need actual paid employment and that this is the barrier that needs to be broken down. There are many organisations with honorouble intentions giving young people CV advice, interview advice etc, yet none are offering them employment.

The TechStart programme aspires to employ young people on a six month contract. During this time they will receive Tech training, life-skills and employability skills training, as well as 4 months of real-world work experience paired up with a TechStart client. At the end of the programme participants will be placed in to employment. We know that it is so much easier to find your 2nd job than it is to find your 1st, which is why we passionately believe in providing actual jobs.

Crucial to our success is building a coalition of funders who believe in our mission. We are not the cheapest option to fund but we will be the most impactful. Once prove our model we believe that we can become partly self-generating through revenue streams such as charging a placement fee for clients in the future who decide to hire a young person post the programme. However our model will always be partly dependent on funding which is why we are a not-for-profit and registered Community Interest Company.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking someone who has experience in submitting funding proposals and who is also passionate about reducing barriers to employment for young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. We envision 5-7 hours per week would be suitable to begin with.

What difference will you make?

There is no TechStart without the successful funding! This volunteer role will be a crucial person to our goals and ambitions. And we hope in the future this could move into a paid position, albeit on a part-time basis. The funding is directly linked to the outcomes of our young people moving into paid employment in tech careers.
