As Finance Officer, you will support the Head of Finance in the day-to-day running of the projects. You will ensure governance across all financial operations. This is a hands-on role that touches upon all aspects of charitable finances.

What will you be doing?

As a Finance Officer your responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Financial planning and monitoring. 
  • Overseeing day-to-day financial operations such as raising and processing invoices. 
  • Dealing with auditors, bankers, and third-party services. 
  • Working with the Head of Finance to assist with the preparation of monthly management. accounts, budgets, year-end and other reports for the CEO and Board of Trustees. 
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations.   

What are we looking for?

  • Recognised professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, AAT) or part qualification 
  • Prior experience in a similar role and good knowledge of charity finances is desirable  
  • Previous experience of working for charities and/or volunteer organisations is desirable 
  • Articulate written, visual and verbal communication skill; fluency in English is essential. 
  • IT/digital literate, including advanced Excel 
  • Ability to build and develop relationships with other teams within the projects and guide colleagues on financial matters  
  • Must be ‘hands on’, with a can-do attitude and prepared to do what it takes to get tasks delivered on time and to a high standard 
  • Experience of preparing management accounts including analysis and commentary  
  • Ability to produce timely, accurate and clear reports to inform monitoring, financial management and strategic development

As a team of volunteers, we are ever so grateful to everyone who agrees to contribute some of their valuable time to the project, but as a minimum, we ask for a commitment of at least 5-6 hours per week. All are voluntary positions with no remuneration offered other than what we hope will be a huge amount of job satisfaction and fun, working with like-minded people with a passion for making a real difference to future generations.
