Are you a qualified chartered accountant or an experienced senior leader in finance? York College is looking for a dedicated individual to lead our Finance & General Purposes Committee.

What will you be doing?

In this key role, you will interpret, question, and scrutinise statistical and financial information. As part of the Board, you will hold the executive team to account while providing support and advice. With a current financial health grade of Good and an annual income of approximately £31.9 million, we are seeking a professionally qualified Chair for our Finance and General Purposes Committee to sustain and improve our financial position.


  • Monitor the financial administration of the college and report to the board of governors on its state of financial health, in line with best practice, and in compliance with the governing document and legal requirements.
  • Oversee and scrutinise budgets, management accounts and annual financial statements and provide advice on these and the financial implications of the college’s strategy and plans to the board of governors.
  • In partnership with the Principal/CEO and Chief Finance Officer ensure sound financial management of the college - that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly invested and economically spent; and that we have sound reserves and other finance policies.
  • Oversee the college’s financial risk management process.

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant or experienced senior finance professional.
  • Strategic influence on spending and leading large-scale projects.
  • Experience of generating investment through collaboration and partnership.
  • Experience in offering advice and support to executive leaders.
  • Background in either commercial or public sectors.
