Lead the finance team and its activities, ensuring all Trust procedures and good accounting practice are followed.  You will help us achieve the full restoration of the Wilts & Berks canal.

What will you be doing?

  1. oversight of the finance team and its activities, ensuring all Trust procedures and good accounting practice are followed
  2. Ensure monthly and annual accounts are prepared and authorised
  3. Ensure compliance with relevant Government and Charity Commission requirements
  4. Increase the capacity of the Finance Team as required and develop the internal processes
  5. Together with the Treasurer, ensure appropriate payments are authorised and complete
  6. Ensure the Trust’s cash position is monitored and protected

(You will not be responsible for the detailed production of the accounts as this is completed by the Head of Accounts)

  • Work with the CEO, Trustees and Directors to help define and create an effective finance function to deliver the Trust’s restoration plans
  • Provide progress reports to the CEO and Leadership Team
  • Chair the Finance Team Meetings
  • Development of individual tasks with the Head of Accounts and the team
  • Motivation of the volunteer team
  • Working with the HR Manager to interview and ensure induction of new finance team members
  • Preparation of the annual budget

  • Strong leadership and understanding of the need for consistent management processes
  • Chartered accountant
  • Ability to manage diverse teams and liaise with internal stakeholder groups
  • Ability to develop structure, recruit and motivate
  • Personal computing facilities including reliable internet access
