Responsible for providing guidance on financial strategy, investment appraisal, budgeting and forecasting. You will oversee the delivery of financial information to the CEO, Head of Retail, Retail/Trading Board and Board of Trustees.

What will you be doing?

Key responsibilities: 

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, monthly management reporting and annual financial reporting for the charity and its subsidiary Trading Company, on a timely basis.
  • You will not be overseeing any paid staff.

 

Key Tasks: 

  • Oversee day-to-day financial management of the charity and its trading subsidiary ensuring appropriate financial controls and optimum processes are in place. Develop smarter ways of working where appropriate.
  • Check that financial information provided to management and the Board of Trustees is accurate. In particular, challenge the assumptions supporting budgets and forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, tax and Charity Commission requirements.
  • Ensure that the gift aid system is properly administered and that gift aid claims are made in a timely manner.Monitor bank accounts and optimise investment of surplus cash. Make investment recommendations to the Executive Director and Board.
  • Ensure the provision of accurate financial information and costings for developmental and capital projects, trust grant reports and other reports as necessary.
  • Assist the CEO in the drafting of the Annual Report and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Ensure the timely filing of all necessary company and charity returns. 
  • Ensure changes in charity and company legislation, including taxation and gift aid schemes, are appropriately adopted.
  • Attend management and Board meetings as required.
  • Attend appropriate courses to ensure continued professional development.

What are we looking for?

Skills and Qualifications:

– Qualified accountant with strong financial management experience.– Organisational and process skills necessary to lead a finance function.– Sound budgeting, forecasting and investment appraisal skills.– Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Desirable but not essential:

– Knowledge or previous experience of hospice/palliative care or another relevant charity

Personal Characteristics:

– Excellent communication skills– A strong interest in seeing the development of palliative care in The Balkans flourish and grow– Alignment with the core Christian values of the charity.– Confident – with the credibility to be a spokesperson for the charity.– Analytical and control conscious – a clear thinker who can recognise critical issues and focus attention accordingly.

What difference will you make?

Filling this role will mean that we are able to assist our hospice partners more effectively, and provide palliative to those in South and East Europe who need it most. By help us in running a more effective and efficient working environment, and will some pressure off of the existing finance team.
