Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Preparing young people with skills for life. We're Scouts and everyone is welcome here. Every week, we help almost half a million people aged 4-25 develop skills for life. Are you ready to join the adventure?

What will you be doing?

We are looking for those experienced in working with young people who can organise their weekly activities.

We have an excellent meeting place and plenty of resources on hand to facilitate activities. We have experienced leaders to support you in the role and lots of training opportunities should you wish to upskill for your own development.

At Scouts we celebrate difference and welcome everyone.

Whatever your background, identity or ability, there’s a volunteer spot with your name on it. Volunteering can be a brilliant way to boost your mental wellbeing. It’s a great feeling knowing you’re helping young people get skills for life, and you might even learn a lot about yourself along the way.

We meet on evenings during term times in Crumpsall.

What would you be doing as a volunteer?

Our volunteers work directly with young people aged 6 to 14 through our groups, known as Sections, which are:

Beavers (age 6 - 8)

Cubs (age 8 - 11)

Scouts (age 11 - 14)

Working in teams, our volunteers might:

- Welcome young people and families to sessions and events

- Make sure everyone's safe, supported, included and having fun

- Help to plan and lead activities

- Get involved with days out, camps and expeditions

- Share and learn skills – from coding to cake decorating to canoeing

- Celebrate young people's achievements big and small

All volunteers are offered skills training which is excellent for adding to your CV or job applications.

What are we looking for?

  • Communication: clear communication with young people, other volunteers and parents/guardians in the local community. Actively listening and understanding the needs of the young people and families.

  • Leadership: inspire and motivate young people, delegate tasks effectively, and provide guidance and support.

  • Problem-Solving: identify challenges, and develop creative solutions, both on the spot and in planning.

  • Planning and Organization: develop well-structured programmes, manage resources efficiently, and ensure that activities are engaging, age-appropriate, and aligned with scouting goals.

  • Safety Awareness: prioritise safety in all activities, ensuring proper procedures are followed and risks are minimized.

  • Positive Attitude and Motivation:  cheerful and encouraging, inspiring young people to participate actively and achieve their goals.

  • Interpersonal Skills: build strong relationships with young people and other leaders, creating a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

  • Flexibility and Adaptability: adjust plans as needed, respond to unforeseen circumstances, and adapt to the changing needs of their group.

  • Mentoring and Support: provide guidance and support to young people, helping them develop their skills and achieve their goals, fostering a sense of personal growth and accomplishment.

What difference will you make?

Scouts can make you feel good in other ways too. We’ll guide you to an opportunity where you’ll:

  • Make friends and meet people
  • Try new things and challenge yourself
  • Get outdoors and get stuck in
  • Positively impact your community
  • Create vital opportunities for young people
  • Make memories that'll last a lifetime

Before you apply

Please contact us via Reach with any questions and apply through Reach in the first instance. We will then arrange an informal conversation to discuss the opportunity further!
