Seeking a skilled & enthusiastic Event Manager to help plan & deliver an event for Start Young UK, empowering young people. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

What will you be doing?

Start Young UK is a charity dedicated to empowering young people and helping them develop essential life skills to thrive. We are currently planning an important awareness event to highlight the work we do and engage with a wider audience. To make this event a success, we are looking for a dedicated and passionate Volunteer Event Manager to join our team.

As the Event Manager, you will play a central role in planning, organizing, and executing this event from start to finish. This will involve creating a detailed event plan, managing logistics, working with vendors, sponsors, and partners, and overseeing volunteer coordination. You’ll also be responsible for promoting the event through various channels.

On the day of the event, you will manage all aspects of the operation, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Your role will include overseeing setup, ensuring that timelines are met, and resolving any challenges that arise. After the event, you will provide a post-event evaluation, including insights and recommendations for future events.

This role is ideal for someone with a background in event management or project management, especially within the charity or non-profit sector. You should be highly organized, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential, as you will be working with a variety of stakeholders and volunteers to bring the event to life.

What are we looking for?

The ideal Volunteer Event Manager should possess the following skills, experience, and qualities:

Skills

  • Event Planning & Management: Strong experience in organising and managing events, from conception to execution.
  • Project Management: Ability to create detailed plans, set deadlines, manage budgets, and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage with stakeholders, sponsors, vendors, and volunteers.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills to motivate and manage volunteers, ensuring they are informed, engaged, and aligned with event objectives.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to stay calm under pressure and think on your feet to resolve challenges during event planning and execution.
  • Marketing & Promotion: Familiarity with promotional channels to boost event visibility.

Experience:

  • Event Planning: Proven experience in planning and executing successful events, preferably in a non-profit or charitable setting.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination: Experience working with external vendors, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Volunteer Management: Experience managing teams of volunteers and coordinating their tasks to ensure smooth event operations.
  • Budgeting & Financial Planning: Basic knowledge of managing event budgets, negotiating costs, and keeping expenses within set limits.

Qualities:

  • Organised: Highly organized with strong attention to detail to manage multiple aspects of the event simultaneously.
  • Proactive & Independent: Ability to take initiative and work autonomously, ensuring tasks are completed without constant supervision.
  • Passionate: A genuine passion for Start Young UK’s mission to empower young people, along with a commitment to making a positive impact.
  • Adaptable: Flexible and open to adjusting plans as needed, especially in dynamic event settings where last-minute changes may occur.
  • Team Player: Collaborative and able to work well with a team, from volunteers to staff members, ensuring everyone is aligned toward the event’s success.

What difference will you make?

As the Volunteer Event Manager for Start Young UK, your impact will be profound. By leading the planning and execution of our awareness event, you will:

Inspire Change: Through the success of the event, you will help inspire individuals, businesses, and organisations to support our work, ensuring that more young people receive the tools and resources they need to succeed.

Build Capacity: By managing this event, you’ll also help Start Young UK build its capacity to deliver future events and initiatives, setting a foundation for growth and long-term impact.
