What will you be doing?

We are seeking a passionate and patient volunteer to teach English to adult learners in a supportive and engaging environment. The ESOL Tutor will plan and deliver lessons tailored to the needs of participants, focusing on practical language skills that can be applied to everyday situations and employment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver ESOL lessons that focus on speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
  • Help learners develop practical English skills for real-life scenarios, such as job applications, interviews, and community interactions.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Assess learners’ progress and adapt teaching methods to meet varying skill levels.
  • Encourage confidence and participation through interactive activities and discussions.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to help learners achieve their language goals.
  • Uphold safeguarding principles and report any concerns to the appropriate team member.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience teaching English as a second language or similar tutoring experience.
  • TESOL/TEFL qualifications or equivalent (desirable but not essential for volunteers).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain concepts clearly.
  • Patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate learners of all levels.

Requirements

  • A valid Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and a commitment to learner safety.
  • Ability to commit to at least one session per week (sessions typically run 1–2 hours).
