Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Do you have excellent English communication and teaching skills?

Would you like to use them to support Refugees and Asylum Seekers by teaching ESOL?

Could you offer 1-2 hours a week/attend 1-2 evening meetings per year?

What will you be doing?

We provide classroom teaching in English to both adults and children, to supplement English classes provided by Darlington College.

What are we looking for?

You will need:

  • At least 3 years' practical experience of teaching or training
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Supportive and friendly style
  • Patience
  • To be approachable and sensitive to the feelings of others
  • Cultural sensitivity

You don't need to have a teaching qualification, you may have training experience or simply be a highly effective communicator who can explain things clearly and help others understand.

What difference will you make?

People who arrive in Darlington seeking sanctuary come from all walks of life and from as many as 20 different countries.  The single biggest barrier to them settling here is their ability to communicate, so English lessons are the key to enabling them to integrate and lead a safe and fulfilling life here
