Either in or out of office hours Board meetings are held four times a year.You will also Chair the School’s Board of Governors, these meetings are held three times a year.

We are seeking a Trustee with experience in the education sector and with working knowledge of providing education for students with Special Educational Needs. 

What will you be doing?

We are seeking a Trustee with experience in the education sector and with working knowledge of providing education for students with Special Educational Needs. The provision of Education is a significant part of the service we offer and so having this expertise on board will be invaluable for the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of Trustees and staff helping some of the most vulnerable children in our society to build a future and reach their potential by supporting the board with your knowledge and expertise of the education sector.

Role Summary:

  • Provide the board with expert advice on educational matters and leadership of the Board of Governors.
  • Help to develop and agree a long-term strategy to enable the organisation to pursue its objectives as set out in the Articles of Association.
  • Ensure that the organisation complies with its governing documents, i.e. the Articles of Association, charity law, company law and any other applicable legislation and regulation.
  • Ensure that the organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets.
  • Safeguarding the good name and values of organisation.
  • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place and that they are being complied with.
  • Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation.
  • Following proper and formal arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of the Director.
  • Actively take part in Board meeting discussions and strive to complete actions as they arise.

What are we looking for?

Essential

  • Experience in the education sector at leadership level.
  • Working knowledge of providing education for students with Special Educational Needs.
  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Understanding and commitment to the organisation’s cause and objectives.
  • Willing to act as an ambassador to external bodies, charities and companies.
  • A team-oriented approach to problem solving and management.

Desirable

  • Experience of being in the role of a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator)

You will be an important member of the leadership team and through your involvement contribute to an organisation achieving outstanding long term outcomes for some of the most vulnerable young people in our society. As you develop into the role of Chair of Governors you will provide Trustee colleagues with expert advice on educational matters and leadership of the Board of Governors. Through your work with Trustees and Managers you will be helping us achieve the best educational outcomes for each student and reaching more children who could benefit from our services.
