East London Waterworks Park is looking for editors and content designers to contribute to public engagement content creating our community-owned park 

What will you be doing?

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that won a 2024 New London Architecture award and has raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

 

We are looking for writers, editors and content designers to participate in our community-led working group who are growing support of the project through public engagement work. 

 

There is opportunity to lead on engagement projects exploring how architects, ecologists, community researchers, political campaigners, fundraisers and communications professions come together to create community infrastructure. 

 

If interested there are also projects opportunities across communications including content creation, social media, PR, newsletters, film, podcasts, long form video content or any other channels of interest, as well as the possibility to facilitate the strategic direction of the working group.

 

The Comms Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Tuesday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.

What are we looking for?

Strong Editing & Proofreading Skills:

  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Experience editing diverse content formats. 

 

Content Design & Development:

  • Ability to write clear, concise, and engaging content that is appropriate for a diverse audiences.
  • Experience in developing and adapting content for various platforms. 
  • Strong storytelling and narrative skills.

     

Visual Communication:

  • Understanding of visual hierarchy and how to use images and graphics effectively to enhance communication.
  • Basic knowledge of design principles and layout.

     

Community Engagement Focus:

  • Interest in and understanding of community-led projects and their importance.
  • Ability to adapt content to resonate with the specific needs and interests of the local community.

 

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with content management systems.
  • Basic graphic design skills (e.g., using tools like Canva).
  • Interest in environmental sustainability and urban green spaces
  • Volunteer experience with community organisations
