Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Sheffield Community Bike Project (SCBP) is a not-for-profit community cycle repair workshop that aims to improve access to cycling. We run volunteer-led drop-in sessions where anyone can bring their bike and learn how to fix it.

What will you be doing?

Since starting in 2022, SCBP has grown from a grassroots project to a registered charity with its own dedicated workshop at 39 King Street open three days a week, and two part-time members of staff. Our ambition is to be open at least five days a week and expand our offer – but to achieve this, we need to strengthen our leadership team.

We are looking for trustees to join our current board of seven. They will work with a newly appointed CEO. We are particularly seeking expertise in the following areas:

  • Governance & Compliance – Strengthening our policies, risk management, and accountability as a growing charity.
  • HR & Employment Law – Supporting our growing staff team and ensuring best practice in employment policies and procedures.
  • Strategic Planning – Helping to define and implement long-term goals during this exciting period of change.
  • Finance & Fundraising – Balancing financial sustainability with our mission to improve access to cycling through making cycle maintenance affordable.
  • Property rental & planning permission – Planning for the possibility of another potential move of premises due to planned developments in the area.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing and impactful community project. If you are passionate about accessible cycling and have skills to offer, we’d love to hear from you.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience on a board or in a senior management role in the charity sector
  • Human Resources experience
  • Financial experience
  • Experience of the planning permission process
  • Connections with decision makers and key stakeholders in Sheffield

What difference will you make?

New trustees joining the team will support and strengthen leadership of Sheffield Community Bike Project.
