Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

The role requires good organizational and financial management skills but does not necessarily require a qualified accountant. We expect the role will take around 100 hours per year, including three Trustee Board meetings and an AGM.

What will you be doing?

Main Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Oversee all financial transactions and maintain accurate records.
  • Manage bank accounts.
  • Supervise campsite, Scout House, Group Scout, and Explorer finances.
  • Approve and process expenses and make payments in a timely manner.

Budgeting:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget.
  • Monitor income and expenditure against the budget throughout the year.
  • Lead the District Trustee Board in the creation of annual budgets and financial planning and monitoring.

Reporting:

  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Committee and at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Prepare the Annual Statement of Accounts for independent examination and approval by the District Trustee Board and submit them to the Charity Commission.

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with the Scout Association’s financial policies and relevant charity regulations.
  • Administer the process of Independent Examination of the Annual Statement of Accounts in accordance with Policy, Organisation, and Rules.

Support, Advice, and Oversight:

  • Provide financial advice, support, and oversight to other members of the District, including Scout Groups, Explorer Groups, Scout House, and Campsite.
  • Ensure that the District is financially able to function, has appropriate reserves, and accounting procedures and controls in place.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain detailed records of all financial transactions.
  • Ensure that all financial reports, annual statements of account, and supporting documents are maintained accurately and in accordance with legal regulations.

Meetings and Communication:

  • Attend Executive Committee meetings and provide updates on the financial status.
  • Communicate financial matters effectively with other members of the District.
  • Chair any finance working groups and the District finance sub-Committee.

Annual Tasks:

  • Prepare the annual accounts and arrange for their independent examination or audit.
  • Present the annual financial report at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Coordinate the collection of the annual UKHQ and District membership fees.
  • Ensure that District assets are appropriately insured.
