Join Epsom BID Ltd as an independent, non-executive director and help strengthen governance, transparency and oversight. BIDs are not-for-profits funded by a levy on local businesses to support town centre improvements. Directors are unpaid.
Epsom BID Ltd is at a pivotal moment in strengthening its governance and ensuring it serves the local business community with professionalism, transparency, and accountability. Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are unique, business-led not-for-profit companies funded through a levy voted for and paid by eligible businesses within a defined area. In Epsom, this generates an annual income of around £400,000 to support initiatives that enhance the town centre's attractiveness, footfall, and commercial vitality.
The BID is governed by a Board of Directors, some of whom also serve on an Operational Committee that oversees delivery of the day-to-day BID projects. However, we are now seeking to appoint up to two new directors who will serve on the Board only, bringing independence and governance expertise to our strategic decision-making.
We are looking for individuals who can bring an experienced, impartial voice to the table—ensuring that the BID delivers real value to levy-paying businesses and meets the highest standards of governance.
The Board currently meets three times per year, or more often as required. Directors play a key role in:
We particularly welcome applications from individuals with prior board or trustee experience, particularly in not-for-profit, local government, town centre regeneration, or economic development contexts. Experience in human resources, finance, or contract oversight would also be valuable.
This is a non-executive and unpaid role, ideal for someone with a few hours to contribute each quarter and a strong belief in the importance of independent oversight in public-facing, business-funded initiatives.
By joining us, you’ll help ensure that Epsom BID continues to deliver responsibly, fairly, and effectively for the businesses that fund it—and support the integrity and public trust essential to its future success.

Familiarity with Business Improvement Districts is not essential, but a willingness to engage with the BID model and its responsibilities is important.
We particularly welcome applications from those who are not otherwise connected to Epsom BID or its member businesses, to help strengthen the independence and objectivity of the Board.
As a non-executive director of Epsom BID Ltd, you will play a vital role in supporting and shaping the strategic direction of a company that exists to enhance the economic vibrancy and commercial success of Epsom town centre.
Your independent perspective and governance experience will help ensure that the BID operates with transparency, integrity, and accountability to the hundreds of businesses that fund it through the compulsory levy.

This is an exciting time to join the Board as we strive to raise governance standards and build a model of best practice for BIDs across the country. Your voice and experience will directly influence how local businesses experience the value and legitimacy of their BID.
By contributing your time and expertise, you will help ensure that the BID not only delivers on its core mission but does so with the transparency, professionalism, and public trust that levy-paying businesses deserve.
