We're flexible but would like the volunteer to start planning and content creation from late August. The campaign will run for 4 weeks from mid Sept.

Deadline

30 Sep 2024

We are fundraising for a block of two classrooms at a school in Malawi, and require support with a crowdfunding campaign which aims to raise £2,000.

What will you be doing?

You will work closely with the charity’s trustees and other marketing volunteers on this project. The project is due to run from August to October 2024. We have run a number of similar campaigns in the past, so can provide full guidance as needed.

Key tasks include:

  • Inputting into a marketing brief for the project.
  • Developing the project’s case for support into key messages which can be used when communicating to our target audiences.
  • With input from trustees, plan a strategy and campaign to encourage target audiences to pledge and to share the campaign.
  • Writing briefs and putting a toolkit of assets together for our other volunteers to use to produce the campaign materials from.
  • Producing materials yourself, and overseeing the production of campaign materials by other volunteers. These materials will likely include web pages, emails, social media content and a campaign video.
  • Ensuring that the campaign is tested before launch, potentially testing out multiple options.
  • Ensuring that the elements of the campaign can be tracked, and that they are then optimised where necessary.
  • There is potential for involvement in any offline activities too.

This is an opportunity to gain experience in  marketing and fundraising, work with board-level stakeholders, like-minded volunteers and learn about Malawi.

Location

You will work remotely, though need to be available for some calls in the evenings UK time which is when most of our trustees and volunteers are available.

What are we looking for?

Person description

Essential experience and skills

  • Experience running digital marketing campaigns
  • Ability to write your own briefs and deliver on them
  • Willingness to be flexible and to be hands on in rolling out elements of the project if necessary

Desired experience

  • Professional marketing qualification
  • Experience or knowledge of fundraising campaigns
  • Knowledge of Malawi or Africa more generally
  • An understanding of the education sector

What difference will you make?

The income generated from this campaign will go towards classroom construction and potentially the  provision of desks at Nthawira Primary School, located north of the city of Blantyre in Malawi.

The school has very few classrooms - some learners study under trees.

  • 491 students of the 1413 at the school, are taught under trees or basic, non-weather proofed shelters.
  • The scorching sun and rainfalls disrupt classes in such open spaces- under the trees and grass-thatched- shelters.
  • The construction of  two classrooms will alleviate these issues, we believe this will improve improve attendance and results at the school.
