Visitors from Fifth Day

Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

We are looking for someone with charitable experience who understands the need for good governance and who has proven leadership credentials to support our current chairperson.

What will you be doing?

Sussex Green Living is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) based out of Horsham District but active throughout Sussex. With an objective to educate and encourage individuals, organisations and businesses to adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles and reduce their carbon and ecological footprint, the demands on the charity are increasing.

Sussex Green Living is seeking someone with the requisite skills and knowledge to undertake the role of deputy chairperson; who has an understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship; and who is willing and able to devote the necessary time and effort to meet the requirements of the role.

There is an expectation that when the current chairperson steps down from the role within the next two years the deputy will take over.  The trustees have a general meeting every quarter, with three of the meetings online and one face-to-face meeting in the summer.  In addition, the role is one of decision making, policy shaping in conjunction with others and involvement in a number of meetings and events.

The commitment, by the nature of the role, is difficult to accurately determine and is open to how much time the postholder to willing to give.  Currently the chairperson’s involvement equates to around one day a week.

The deputy will work closely with the chairperson, other relevant trustees and the CEO.  They will be given support and training where needed.

We would very much like to speak with interested individuals to discuss this important role within a dynamic, growing and highly regarded environmental organisation.

A full job description is attached and person specification is available on request.

What are we looking for?

A general background in strategy, governance, finance, HR, fundraising would be useful. Previous experience as a chair or trustee would be welcomed.

What difference will you make?

Assist the Chair, trustees, volunteers and partners in this dynamic, growing and highly regarded environmental charity.
